The Super Falcons of Nigeria took a significant stride towards qualifying for the next round of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
During the match, Australia managed to score the opening goal in stoppage time of the first half, courtesy of Van Egmood’s efforts. Nevertheless, the Super Falcons quickly responded, and just four minutes later, Uchenna Kanu scored the equalizer.
In the second half, the African giants turned the tables, netting two goals from Osinachi Ohale and Asisat Oshoala, making the scoreline 3-1 in their favor. Australia did manage to reduce the two-goal deficit in stoppage time through Kennedy’s goal.
The qualification for the knockout stages remains wide open, with Nigeria, Canada, and Australia all having a chance. The co-hosts, Australia, need a victory against Canada to secure their spot in the next round, while Nigeria requires only a point against Ireland to progress.
