As we Nigerians will always say, “Breakfast na National moi moi, e go reach everybody “. This saying simply means heartbreaks are like rain, they will surely fall on everyone’s roof. Just as you think laughter and joy are constants of life, so also is the pain that comes with heartbreak. The faster you understand that heart break is a part of human life, the earlier you start healing from your wounds. I’m not writing this because I’m an expert at getting my heart broken (maybe I’ve been heartbroken a couple of times); I’m writing this because these steps always accelerates my moving on from whatsoever disappointment I’ve faced.
Here Are The Five Steps On How To Move On From A Heart Break.
1. Acceptance:
The first thing to do is to accept that heartbreaks happens once in awhile. Even in movies that are scripted, there are still heart breaks. Most times the Princess gets her heart broken by the Nobel man before she eventually finds her Prince. Just like every sphere of life, relationships ain’t always a joy ride. As my friend will say, “human emotions are fickle”. So, just accept that it’s part of life and you’ll start the healing process.
2. Forgive Your Ex:
Yeah, you heard me right, Forgive your ex. Having so much hate will only make things even worse. Hate feeds the flame of sadness, pain and revenge. It is such a strong emotion that it will keep you stuck in the past. When you forgive that ex, you let them out of your heart. You take out the dagger that shattered your heart and from there the pieces can start coming back together.
3. Focus On Your Growth:
Focus on yourself even more now that you don’t have the distraction of a relationship. Exercise more, read a lot more, take that course you’ve always wanted, do things you’ve always wanted to do. See yourself more in the mirror and love yourself even more than you did. Trust me on this one.
4. Open Up Your Heart:
Most people often make the mistake of saying they’ll never love again after a heart break. When your heart is closed, it hurts even more. Be playful, make friends, meet new people, be open minded and just go with the flow. Your heart will definitely thank you for it.
5. Fall In Love:
As cliche as this looks, fall in love again. Find your smile again in the tiniest and most beautiful things. Go all out for that thing that gives your heart a tingling sensation. Meet up with that person your heart approves of. Don’t hold back, don’t be scared just do it. A lot of people actually cares about you, you just have to let them show their care.
You have to understand that you are your own biggest asset, never let the foolishness of one person keep you down and lock you away. The world is too big for you to be kept in your tiny space. There’s you and 7 Billion other people on Earth, one person has no right to do that to.
