Popular Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Patoranking, is mourning the loss of his younger sister, Chioma Onuabuchi, and her husband, George, following a devastating gas explosion in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. The tragic incident occurred on August 25, 2024, on the waterworks axis of the city, claiming the lives of the young couple.
According to the Ebonyi State Police Command, the initial confusion suggested the explosion was caused by an inverter battery, but further investigation confirmed a gas explosion as the cause. DSP Joshua Ukandu, the Command’s spokesman, confirmed the tragic details to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), noting that while Chioma passed away in August, her husband succumbed to his injuries in early September.
“The couple was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, both eventually died. Chioma, Patoranking’s younger sister, died in August, while her husband passed away in September,” Ukandu stated.
A relative of the couple, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a tragic blow to the family. “They were a young couple with a three-year-old son. It’s heartbreaking. We are still in shock and have no more to say,” the relative lamented.
The devastating news has left Patoranking’s family, friends, and fans in mourning, as they cope with the sudden loss of two beloved individuals.
