Equatorial Guinea Official Arrested in Scandal Involving Over 400 Sextapes

Date:

A major scandal has emerged in Equatorial Guinea, where Baltasar Engonga, the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), was recently arrested following the discovery of over 400 sextapes involving intimate encounters with wives of prominent figures in the country. The tapes were found during an investigation into Engonga for alleged fraud, in which authorities searched his home and office, uncovering CDs that contained footage of Engonga’s relationships with numerous women, some of whom are married to influential individuals.

The tapes reportedly show encounters with Engonga’s brother’s wife, the sister of the country’s President, the wife of the Director General of Police, and the spouses of approximately 20 government ministers, among others. Disturbingly, many of these encounters allegedly took place within his office at the Ministry of Finance, with some scenes filmed beside the national flag. The scandal has garnered significant attention, with clips now circulating on social media, drawing intense public scrutiny and media coverage.

According to local media reports, Engonga, commonly known as “Bello,” was known for his relationships with high-profile women, with the footage purportedly recorded with their consent. This factor has shielded him from accusations of sexual assault or coercion, as noted by the country’s Attorney General, Nzang Nguema. However, Nguema highlighted the public health risk these interactions might pose, especially with the unprotected nature of some encounters, and urged any victims to come forward if they felt coerced.

In response to the public uproar, the government has suspended officials who engaged in sexual relations within ministry offices, reinforcing a strict “zero tolerance” stance on conduct that compromises public integrity. Vice President Nguema Mangue addressed the issue publicly, stating that actions that undermine ethics and public trust will not be tolerated, adding, “Ethics and respect are fundamental in our Administration.”

This scandal represents one of the most significant controversies in Equatorial Guinea’s recent history, with the government under pressure to maintain accountability among its officials and restore public confidence in the administration’s ethical standards.
