Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad has made a surprising bid for Arsenal midfielder Leandro Trossard, proposing a season-long loan deal with an obligation to buy next summer.
Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the offer on his social media accounts on Monday, September 2, 2024. According to Romano, Al Ittihad submitted a €35 million (£30 million) bid to secure Trossard’s signature as they aim to strengthen their squad before their transfer window closes.
Romano stated, “Saudi side Al Ittihad submit proposal in the region of €35m for Leandro Trossard. Decision up to Arsenal as he’s always been an important player for Arteta. Official proposal arrives ahead of Saudi Pro League deadline, as Al Ittihad keep looking for new winger.”
The 29-year-old has made only one start in the Premier League this season, against his former club Brighton. Reports suggest that Trossard is unhappy with his limited playing time since joining Arsenal last season (2023/24).
However, The Athletic has reported that Arsenal rejected the deal shortly after receiving it. It’s unclear whether Al Ittihad will submit another bid for Trossard or pursue other targets as their transfer window nears its end.
Arsenal fans will hope to keep the Belgian midfielder as they anticipate a busy season with numerous matches across various competitions, where squad depth will be crucial.
