His cousin, Tony Muonagor, had previously revealed that Amaechi grappled with kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke, necessitating regular dialysis and physiotherapy at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) in Nnewi, Anambra.

Born on August 20, 1962, Amaechi hailed from Idemili, Anambra state, and was married with four children. Following his youth service in 1989, he began his career at the News Agency of Nigeria before transitioning to acting, where he gained prominence with his portrayal of Akunatakasi in ‘Taboo 1’, his debut film.

Amaechi’s passing comes shortly after the demise of another Nollywood icon, John ‘Mr Ibu’ Okafor, who died from cardiac arrest on March 2 at Evercare Hospital in Lagos. Mr Ibu, aged 62, had battled a severe illness for months before his passing.
