‘I don’t fear death’ – Falz addresses why he sings controversial songs

1

Nigerian artist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has shared the reason why he puts out songs that spark controversy.

The rapper explained his reasoning in a recent interview with Arise TV, emphasizing that life in Nigeria is meaningless. He stated that he was not afraid of death.

With the release of his most recent song with Vector, ‘Yakubu,’ named after the chairman of the Independent National Election Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the actor was featured on Arise TV to speak on “Music as a Socio-political Tool.”

In the song, Vector and Falz criticized INEC, its chairman, and other political parties for allegedly engaging in electoral fraud during the just-ended general elections. Falz asserts that he would rather die fighting for justice than keep silent and perish as a result of the nation’s broken system.

He joined the program from the United Kingdom through Skype, but the rapper claimed that he was not overseas because he was terrified of conflict with state actors over the contentious song.

He said,

I knew that was going to come up when you announced that I was doing this from London. Like I said earlier on, this is not the first time, this is not the second time, this is not the third time.

I have released tons of records that are very confrontational. And I was on ground. I’m always on ground when I released these records. It is not to say that I’m running anywhere. Absolutely not. Everyone know where to find me. If anyone wants to find me. But I have no reason to fear anything. And I always say this when people ask me ‘how do you do these things without any fear of consequences?

And this is the same answer that I always give: the kind of life we are living already is one which we are more or less fading away already. It’s not a meaningful life what we have in Nigeria as a country.

What’s the worst that could happen? It’s death. I don’t fear death. I would rather go down fighting for a just cause. I would rather be remembered as someone that lived a life that was meaningful rather than someone that for example was walking down the road and got run over by a danfo [bus] because he was driving recklessly. Or, someone that got a heart disease and could not save himself because there are no hospitals capable of saving him in Nigeria.”

Nancy Isime speaks on being seen as a sex symbol

0

Nigerian actress and media personality Nancy Isime have spoken about why she feels it is weird to be called or seen as a sex symbol.

Isime shared this during her interview with Ehiz, where she made her dissatisfaction known with the fact that many see her as a sex symbol.

When Ehiz asked if she considers herself one, she said, “Aye! Do you know the funniest part? No. I would never know why people-“Because as a woman, you don’t even need to do anything to be a sex symbol. People just always want to make everything about you about sex.

Commenting on if she’s aware that many consider her a sex symbol, the actress said, “I know. And it’s weird. Because what did I do? It’s just weird. Because I don’t even know. See the thing I’m talking about. I have no makeup on. Literally, I have a hat on. I’m all covered up. I see myself as a crush symbol because there’s a huge- everybody “you’re my crush”, “he crush”, “e crusher”, but sex symbol, I don’t get that a lot….Yeah, I know probably there are fantasies of that. And it also happens with being a single woman. Maybe when I get married, all of that dies down a little bit. I feel like when you’re married, that kinda dies down. Some sick people still stay and say they want to have sex with you when you’re married, but sex symbol, I don’t see myself as that.”

‘I’m not a prisoner’ Portable boasts as he previews new single

0

Street-pop sensation Portable has previewed a new single after his release from Police custody.

Portable was arrested on the evening of Friday, March 31, 2023, after the expiration of the 72 hour-ultimatum given to him to honor the police invitation. This followed an incident captured in a video that has gone viral where the singer was seen fending off police officers deployed to effect his arrest at a recreational center he owns in Ogun State.

In the video, Portable rained curses on the officers, who he claimed had no justification for storming his business centre without a prior invitation.

The arrest was inspired by the petition by his former signee Manny Monie who claimed Portable invaded his studio and destroyed his recording equipment while also assaulting him.

Following his release, Portable has taken to his Instagram page on April 5, 2023 to preview a new song that highlights his encounter with the law.

Samuel Perry, the comic actor better known as Broda Shaggi, says he makes more than $40,000 from skit-making on YouTube.

The skit maker, in a recent interview on the Dadaboy Show, said he makes money on the streaming platform because he is “consistent” and rakes in a “high number of views.”

Shaggi added that growing his platform and working with other brands also helped him to generate income.

“I try my best. Yes, its numbers for you to make money as a skit maker, its numbers and you have to be consistent,” he said.

“Consistency is very key, you have to be consistent always because when you’re consistent, you have more content and more content means more money.

“You make more money if you’re on YouTube and you grow your platform well. Asides from YouTube, there are brands who want to penetrate your brand and work with you.

“All they look for is numbers. How many views? Who is watching? What’s the comment like? What’s their reach? And that’s how the money comes in. In a month it might be more than $40k.”

The 29-year-old comedian had previously revealed that poverty led him to a career in entertainment.

“I came from Ikenne in Ogun state and left for Lagos when my father died. I lived with my aunt in Makoko, she took care of me till l left the university. I was neither born with a silver spoon nor grew up in Lekki,” he had said.

“I started entertainment out of hunger. Most people out there started also started out of hunger because poverty is not a good thing. When poverty hits you, you’ll be one to figure out your talent.”
