Portable Claims Wizkid and Davido Use Controversy to Trend

Date:

Nigerian street-hop sensation, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has once again stirred the pot with his bold claims about Afrobeats heavyweights Wizkid and Davido. According to Portable, the ongoing beef between the two superstars is nothing more than a promotional stunt designed to keep them relevant in the music industry.

“Their Music Isn’t Marketable Anymore”

In a recent post on his Instagram story, Portable suggested that Wizkid and Davido’s music no longer dominates the charts as it once did, which has led them to resort to online feuds as a way to stay in the spotlight. “Una songs no dey market again, na fight una dey use do promotion,” Portable declared, implying that controversy has replaced genuine hit songs for the two artists.

The “Zazu” crooner further advised them to focus on their music rather than tearing each other down for promotion. “Don’t use your brother to shine, shine yourself,” he wrote, calling for an end to the ongoing social media warfare.

“I Stand Alone”

Portable made it clear that he does not align himself with either Wizkid or Davido in their public spat. Distancing himself from the drama, he emphasized his independence in the music industry. “Me, I no dey for Davido. Me, I no dey for Wizkid. I dey for myself,” he stated, reaffirming his commitment to his own brand and music.

He also boldly claimed that he has more hit songs than both Wizkid and Davido, suggesting that his relevance is built on authentic success rather than manufactured controversies. “Portable is bigger than them. Who is big is big,” he added confidently.

Wizkid and Davido’s Recent Feud

Portable’s comments come amid an escalating online feud between Wizkid and Davido. The beef, which has reignited on social media, saw Wizkid take jabs at Davido earlier this week, calling him “wack” and “talentless.” Despite Davido’s silence and refusal to engage in the war of words, Wizkid has continued his verbal attacks, even involving Davido’s family in his latest posts.

While fans and observers have speculated whether the feud is genuine or simply a promotional tactic, Portable’s statements suggest that the rivalry may indeed be a deliberate strategy to maintain relevance. His remarks have sparked further debate about the role of controversies in promoting music careers, particularly in an industry as competitive as Afrobeats.

The Bigger Picture: Controversy in the Music Industry

Controversies have long been a tool for artists to stay in the spotlight, and the Nigerian music scene is no exception. However, Portable’s critique highlights the growing concern among some artists and fans that these strategies could overshadow the music itself. With both Wizkid and Davido already established as global icons, their ongoing feud has raised questions about whether they still need drama to stay relevant, or if their musical legacies should speak for themselves.

Portable’s Place in the Industry

Portable’s rise to fame has been fueled by both his music and his larger-than-life personality. Known for his blunt opinions and wild antics, the singer has managed to carve out his own space in the industry, unapologetically declaring himself “bigger” than many of his peers. Whether his latest comments about Wizkid and Davido are another stunt or genuine concern for the industry remains to be seen, but one thing is certain; Portable is the most controversial.
