Nigerian singer Anthony Ebuka Victor, popularly known as Victony, has opened up about his ongoing health battles and the resilience that keeps him performing. The young artist, who survived a severe car accident in 2021 that left him in a coma for four days, revealed that he has undergone four surgeries since the incident, with another one on the horizon.
In an emotional interview during the Adesope live segment at the Afroland festival, Victony shared that he is still in the recovery phase but remains determined to continue his music career. Reflecting on his journey, he said, “Honestly, I am blessed and the world can see. I’m still in the recovery phase but I’m still able to do this now. And I’m about to go on tour.
Despite the physical challenges, Victony is preparing for his upcoming North America tour. He noted the necessity of taking pain relievers before his performances, highlighting the immense physical toll his condition has taken.
“Thinking about last year, even up until recently, I have done 4 surgeries and I am still going to do one more after the tour. But it’s still a blessing. Going in and out of the hospital,”
Victony’s determination and gratitude are evident as he navigates these challenges.
“I take pain relievers before I go on stage and I still record. I thank God for his grace, it is not by power. I’m not his favourite child so I don’t know why he is blessing me,” he said.
The singer’s resilience is not just physical but also emotional. In February 2023, Victony announced a two-month break from music after undergoing his third surgery, demonstrating the necessity of taking time to heal both physically and mentally.
As Victony continues to recover and prepare for another surgery post-tour, his story serves as an inspiration to many. His ability to perform and create music amidst such adversity is a testament to his strength and passion. Fans and well-wishers around the world are undoubtedly rooting for his swift recovery and continued success.
