Wizkid’s latest album, Morayo, debuted at number 98 on the prestigious Billboard 200 chart, selling 13,000 units in its first week. This marks the fourth time the Starboy boss has graced the chart, tying him with Burna Boy, who achieved the same feat earlier.

Music monitoring platform Chart Data confirmed the achievement via X (formerly Twitter), stating:

“Wizkid ties Burna Boy as the Nigerian artist with the most charting albums in Billboard 200 history (4 each).”

Morayo: A Double Win

The album’s success didn’t stop there. Morayo also debuted at number 4 on the Billboard World Albums chart, further solidifying Wizkid’s dominance on the global stage.

What This Means for Nigerian Music

Wizkid’s achievement is a testament to the growing influence of Nigerian music worldwide. With his distinct sound and international collaborations, Wizkid has consistently pushed the boundaries of Afrobeats, carving a niche for the genre in the global music scene.

A New Challenger: Davido on the Horizon

As Wizkid and Burna Boy lead the charge, another Afrobeats heavyweight, Davido, could soon join the tie. The Timeless crooner already boasts three albums on the Billboard 200 and is set to release his fifth studio album, 5IVE, next year. If 5IVE charts, it would make Davido the third Nigerian artist to reach this milestone.

Will Davido or Burna Boy take the lead next year? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the future of Afrobeats has never looked brighter.
