The manager of Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti has sent a warning to the members of his team ahead of the game against Liverpool.
The Italian was speaking in a post-match interview after the game against Espanyol in a league match on Saturday, March 11th, 2023 at the Santiago Bernabeu. He advised his players not to be overconfident going into the second leg against Liverpool.
The first leg at Anfield last month (February 2023). Early goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah had appeared to put the hosts in control, but Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema both scored a brace and Eder Militao was also on the scoresheet. Real Madrid won the game 5-2.
Ancelotti mentioned last season’s tie against the Blues, when they secured a 3-1 first-leg victory at Stamford Bridge before almost crashing out. Chelsea raced into a stunning three-goal lead in the Spanish capital to put them ahead of the tie, before a Madrid fightback saw them eventually advance after extra-time, the game ended 5-4 in favour of the Galacticos.
We had the experience of last year against Chelsea. We had a three-goal advantage, which is why we are and were favorites, but the other fact is that we have to play another 90 minutes.
Liverpool fans will hope that their team can avenge the defeat of last season’s final by booking a spot in the Quater-finals.
